Josephine Declerck - Abstract Paintings

My work focuses on non traditional pictorial supports and on the interaction between colours, paint, material, ‘untouched spaces’, layers and transparency.
With this technic, I create maps of unknown places with various colours and transparencies.

Dual Citizen, British & French.

La Cambre in Brussels (BA 2009)

Central Saint Martins, London (MA 2011)

It helps me to believe that these places are real and do exist and that they might be discovered one day.

We do not know them yet, and I find it reassuring to imagine that something new and exciting is possible.

Maybe different political systems exist in these places?

Maybe new types of landscapes?

Which do not ressemble to anything we already know?

What is exciting with painting on glass is that I can investigate the different plans created by the transparency and take into account (or not) the interaction between the painting and its environment. The wall it is attached to or its surroundings (indoor or outdoor).

Each series share its name with music albums that are important to me, from obscure to famous, french to internationals.
