During the summer of 2009, I had the opportunity to be an resident artist at the Al-Mahat-A Gallery in Ramallah, Palestine, and to make my first solo exhibition "Horizon".
Horizon, consisted in an installation, a video, and two other art works specially designed for the exhibition (Anywhere else and Olive Trees). Whilst wondering about the realities facing the Palestinian people, I tried to take into account the complexity of the situation, and devote myself to universal considerations such as the free movement of people and ideas, the perspective of a future, and the access to art and culture ...
Horizon is an “action” done at the gallery Al Mahat-A few days before the opening of the exhibition. I drew a line in the wall, up to my horizon (1m65), using a small metal piece found around the gallery. I carved a line, going through the several layers of the wall until this line was deep enought to let in some rays of light. This long and repetitive gesture has been experienced as a real challenge, both physical and mental.
